Gebrselassie wins Dubai marathon
Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie has run the second fastest time in history to win the Dubai Marathon, finishing in an unofficial time
of two hours four minutes 53 seconds.
Gebrselassie, who was chasing a $US1 million ($A1.14 million) incentive to break his own world record, paid the price for his energetic start, finishing 27 seconds outside the mark he set in Berlin last September.
Running in almost perfect conditions on one of the flattest courses in the world, the 34-year-old was inside world record pace right up until the final seven kilometres.
The victory will earn Gebrselassie $US250,000 ($A285,560) from Dubai's world record prize money pool of $US1 million.
Parece que el gran Gebre pasó demasiado rápido la primera media maratón (
61:27), acusando ese esfuerzo en la parte final (63:26 el segundo parcial). Berhane Adere completó el éxito etíope, también con récord de la prueba: 2h22:42.
