Today we released both a software update for the and and GPS chipset firmware update for the fenix 3. Please review the following changes to both software and firmware below.
fenix 3 SW Update
Changes from version 3.40 to version 3.60:
Improved GPS tracking performance (Requires GPS Software 2.90. Note: after applying GPS software updates, for best results please allow the device to track GPS signals continuously for 10 to 15 minutes. This one-time process will allow the device to re-accumulate satellite information lost in the update process).
Improved GPS distance accumulation (requires GPS Software 2.90).
Added support for Connect IQ SDK 1.1.3.
Fixed potential issues with 'Resume Later' app option.
GPS Chipset Update
Changes made from version 2.80 to 2.90:
Improve positioning performance and distance accrual in some circumstances.
Just to reiterate a point mentioned in the changelog, after applying GPS software updates, for best results please allow the device to track GPS signals continuously for 10 to 15 minutes. With our extensive internal testing, this is absolutely necessary for best results.
To perform this, please do the following:
1. Take your device outside with a clear view of the sky
2. Go into an activity
3. Once you obtain the green ring indicating a GPS fix, start the activity and let it run for 15 minutes
After you have completed the 15 minutes in the activity with constant satellite signal, that activity can be safely deleted. Your device should now be ready to use.

Use Garmin WebUpdate tool. How does one get the 2.90 GPS chipset update?
Only getting the software 3.60 update with GE.
For me I've got only 3.60 via Garmin Express, but WebUpdate found 2.90 GPS update without issue.
